The GLTTC will be having a fundraiser in order to purchase 5 new Joola tables and sunset the rest of our Killerspin tables. The the City has brought us 6 of the Joola tables over the last several years with the understanding that the players would match that. Now is the time. We are working with Sonia Doughty, the fundraising specialist at the Seattle ARC office. ARC will provide an online "kickstarter" style platform. The fundraiser will run from February 1 to February 29. During that time we will raise at least $5000.
There will be pins and shirts as donations "thank you" gifts. I've also arranged to have a mini-tournament sponsored by a local start-up, Mavengo on 2/8 and 2/15. Mavengo has written software for managing sports competition that is similar in some ways to TTCentral.com, which we use for our Friday leagues. They will donate to the fundraiser for each participant, and provide prizes for the winners.
The most important part of the fundraiser is you. If 50 of you donate $100 each, we will achieve our goal. If 25 of you donate $200 each, that will also work. Most important is to contribute what you can. If you play once a week on Saturday or Sunday, you have spent $250. If you have played on Tuesdays, Fridays, and Wednesdays, you have saved about that much.
There will be a meeting this Saturday, January 11 at 3 pm in room #3 upstairs at the GLCC to plan the fundraiser, and also discuss some other issues such as where we can play for 3 months between March 15 and June 15 while the center is closed for renovation. Please let me know if you can make the meeting. Shall I pick up some snacks?
