To friends and players: I'm writing to let you know that I'm stepping back from my table tennis volunteer activity at the Green Lake Community Center. I started playing and helping out at GLCC around 2007. I purchased the glttc.org domain and created the website and email list. I created and fabricated the gym divider system, worked with Seattle Parks and Recreation (SPR) to purchase tables and equipment, helped organize several annual weekend tournaments, and repaired nets, barriers, and tables. I ...Continue Reading

Thank you to everyone who participated in our kanban table tennis match scheduling system at the Green Lake Community Center. Unfortunately, the community center has ordered us to stop using the system. They have told us that use of kanban violates the staff's union contract, third-party software usage is not permitted, and it is not compatible with SPR's low-bar drop-in programs. We find some of these concerns to be questionable, however this decision was made by SPR's upper management. GLCC coordinator, Jewels ...Continue Reading

First, Friday evening play has stopped again for basketball season. Table tennis should be starting up again around March 29. There have been some developments regarding restoration of our pre-pandemic weekend hours. The GLTTC, together with our fiscal sponsor, Seattle Parks Foundation (SPF), applied for a "service contract" in September that would allow for a reduced rental cost on weekends. Seattle Parks and Recreation (SPR) responded on November 27 with a draft contract offering Saturday play from 5 pm to ...Continue Reading

The Green Lake Community Center will be closed on Friday, November 10th (Veterans Day), and Friday, November 24 (Day after Thanksgiving) We are waiting to hear when our last Friday will be before the basketball league takes over the gym. In any case, we can expect that there will be no table tennis on Fridays, January through March. We are also waiting for the results of the partnership application that might allow us to start Saturday and/or Sunday evening table tennis. -Kim ...Continue Reading

All players are requested to attend a "listening session" with SPR Recreation Director, Daisy Catague this Wednesday, July 19 at 5:30 pm at the Green Lake Community Center. This will be our best chance to let SPR know how much we would like to see our weekend table tennis hours restored. I will be presenting our petition to her at the meeting. If you have not yet signed, please do so before Tuesday at noon, since the signatures are being sent to me then for final formatting. Here is the petition l ...Continue Reading

Please help us restore weekend evening table tennis at Green Lake Community Center The Green Lake Community Center announced in September of 2021 that after 26 continuous years, they could no longer provide weekend table tennis. The reason given was that the off-hours weekend program violated cash handling policy and was non-standard within Seattle Parks & Recreation (SPR). This cut has reduced our average evening hours from about 13.5 per week to slightly under 5 hours. The gym now sits idle on Saturday and Sunda ...Continue Reading
