We are saddened by the loss of our friend and fellow table tennis player, Dr. Rusheng Zheng. Rusheng had played with us at Green Lake for many years, often coming with his son, John who is also a fantastic player. We send our condolences to John and to all Rusheng’s family, friends, and patients. Our last Tuesday play until March will be November 13. Friday play has been extended until December 28. The last league night will still be on November 16 with our party unless players wish to keep it going through December. The Friday league has been a great success. We have had over 200 different players over 31 weeks. Our kanban league software has improved since we started in March. All matches can now be scored on your mobile phones. There will be no table tennis on Friday, October 26 due to a Halloween event in the gym. The final week for our Tuesday and Friday evening table tennis will be the week before Thanksgiving. Wednesday open play table tennis resumes from 10 am to 1 pm this week, and the drop-in table in the storage room will be set up again next week. I expect there will be a wide range of levels of player on Wednesdays again this season as there was last spring. Our Friday league has been going strong since March. Our Wednesday 10 to 1 play time will stopping for the summer. We will continue again on September 5. Tuesday evening players, please remember to help put tables away before you leave. The single table in the drop-in room will also be closed through the summer. We will be closed Saturday, June 30 and Sunday, July 1 due to building maintenance. The Green Lake Community Center is giving us Tuesdays from 6 pm to 9 pm again starting April 3. The reason is that the dodgeball league they intended to have on Tuesdays did not have sufficient participation. Please spread the word that we have table tennis again Tuesday evenings. The GLTTC is starting a kanban league on Friday nights from 6 to 9 pm. Opening night is March 23. Everyone is welcome. The league directors will be Chuck Piecuch and David Marques. The referee will be Mario Ortiz. The GLTTC will be the first Seattle table tennis facility to run a kanban league. Kanban leagues utilize USATT style ratings in order set up matches with players of similar levels, however the format is a bit different from the usual group/table based league.
