The Green Lake Community Center is closed tomorrow, Friday, November 10 for Veterans Day. No table tennis. Our last Tuesday and Friday play will be 11/14 and 11/17 because of basketball season. Thank you to everyone who volunteered to lobby the Seattle City Council at the November 1 budget meeting. As things stand now, we will not be making an appearance at that meeting. Our plan to attend has changed due to an unforseen problem with the motion put forward by Council Member Mike O'Brien. Please stay tuned though. At some point we may need to act quickly. As many of you know already, there has been ongoing discussions with the city regarding the future of Green Lake Community Center. Seattle Parks and Recreation has proposed tearing down and rebuilding the community center and has suggested they would need to partner with a private organization to pay the cost. We had announced in July that the GLCC would be discontinuing our Tuesday 6 - 9 open play. I'm happy to announce that the center has reversed course and will be letting us continue to play on Tuesdays until basketball leagues resume in November. Our last Tuesday is expected to be November 14. Please spread the word since this is very short notice. Please remember that we need to be completely cleaned up and out of the gym by 9 pm. Our Wednesday daytime table tennis slot from 10 am to 1 pm is starting up again this week on 8/30. We will continue throughout the year at this time except when the community center is closed for renovation between October 16 and November 5. Our regular 10 am – 1 pm play will continue on September 6 We are permanently loosing our Tuesday evening play time. The last Tuesday for us will be on September 12. The GLTTC Opening Serve program is partnering with the Swedish Hospital Multiple Sclerosis Center on May 10 from 10 am to 1 pm. The FREE event is open to all persons living with MS, and since the event will occur during our normal Wednesday time slot, everyone is welcome.
